How To Survive Wedding Season If You’re Single
Wedding Season Is In Full Swing – Are You Ready?
It’s that time of year again, the flowers are blooming, the sun is shining. Spring is upon us which means that wedding season is heading into full swing.
Love and new beginnings may be in the air, but when you’re single weddings can bring up a whole other set of emotions to deal with.
Panic at finding the perfect dress to wear, spending money on seemingly endless showers, gifts, parties. Not to mention the pressure of finding (or not finding) the perfect date for the occasion.
Not since Valentine’s Day have you felt such a spotlight on your singleness.
Panic aside, there’s nothing to fear, in todays article I’m sharing with you my expert dating coach tips so you can gracefully deal with going solo during wedding season.
1. Treat Yo Self
Dress To Impress! Since you have to dress up for a variety of events make the most of it and wear something that makes you feel amazing and (tastefully) sexy. Looking good and more importantly feeling good is essential for confidence. Do it for you, but keep in mind that there will be pictures and you never know who you’ll run into at the event.
2. Set Intentions
As a dating coach, I talk a lot about mindset with my clients because our emotions are a reaction to our thoughts not the other way around. Your state of mind at any given time will set the tone for not just how you’re feeling in the moment but also how confident that you’re coming across to others unconsciously with your body language.
Before you step out the door, set an intention to have a great time and enjoy yourself. If you’ve been single for some time going to another wedding while you remain alone can be a bummer. But it’s important to remember that happiness is a choice.
You can choose how you want the day to go. So think of it this way – are you going to walk in confident and ready to have a great time or feeling like less than because you don’t have a plus one?
3. Beware The Open Bar
Sometimes if you’re feeling especially nervous to be at a big event alone, liquid courage seems like the obvious answer. But trust me you don’t want to wake up the next morning as the girl who was the sloppy mess. Watch your alcohol intake both before and during the celebrations, sometimes it’s the champagne you have before the dinner that’s the real culprit in impending disaster. A good rule of thumb is to drink at least one glass of water for every alcoholic beverage you have.
4. Spend Time With People That Bring You Up
This can feel difficult if you’re the only single person at a table full of married relatives. If this happens to you avoid the onslaught of “You’re such a great catch, why are you still single?” questions by answering simply “Because I haven’t found the right person yet”.
Then tactfully change the subject by asking them an unrelated question back. For example say: “What’s new with you, do you have any plans for the rest of the summer?”. Then once the dancing starts look for a new table to mingle with. If you happen to be close to the bride you could do some preventative planning and ask specifically to be seated with other singles.
5. Always Remember That You’re Awesome!
For some of us, weddings can be a harsh reminder of where you want to be but aren’t. But just because you aren’t there yet doesn’t mean you won’t get there.
Rather than being in your head take time to be in the moment and enjoy who you are right now, after all there are a lot of amazing things about being single. Remember that it’s not about you, it’s a celebration of love between to people that you get to be a part of and that’s a beautiful thing.
XO,
Deanna
